Upon arrival in Hadiboh, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to Ayhaft Canyon National Park, a green valley often referred to as a natural nursery for its wide diversity of plant life and freshwater pools. Here you’ll find tamarind and fig trees that shelter Socotra Sunbirds, Sparrows, and the striking Socotra Starling, while Egyptian Vultures and Buzzards circle above the cliffs. After a refreshing swim in the pools and some introductory birding, return to Hadiboh for overnight
After breakfast, set out westward, stopping at the towering Gubba cliffs, a nesting ground for kestrels, swifts, and falcons. Continue along the coast to Qalansiya, a traditional fishing town whose surrounding wetlands attract flamingos, herons, sandpipers, and the famous crab plover. By afternoon, reach the spectacular Detwah Lagoon, a UNESCO-protected Ramsar site of global importance, where waders and migratory shorebirds feed along the tidal flats. The sunset here paints the lagoon in breathtaking colors, and you’ll camp overnight on its pristine shore.
This morning, board a traditional fishing boat and cruise along the coast to the secluded Shu’ab Beach. En route, pods of spinner dolphins often playfully escort the boat, while seabirds wheel overhead. The remote beach is a paradise of mangroves and white sand, and nearby cliffs host nesting Socotra Cormorants, Red-billed Tropicbirds, and boobies. Spend the day birdwatching, swimming, and relaxing in this untouched bay before returning by boat in the evening to your campsite at Detwah.
Travel inland today into the rugged highlands of the Dixam Plateau, the heart of Socotra and home to the largest concentration of Dragon Blood trees. These ancient, umbrella-shaped giants dominate the skyline, creating one of the island’s most iconic landscapes. Hike along the Shibhan canyons, where Egyptian Vultures and Socotra Buzzards soar, and visit Bedouin villages where you can learn about the traditional use of Dragon Blood resin. Overnight camping on the plateau offers a cool, starlit experience.
After a morning trek among Dragon Blood trees and Socotra Buzzard habitats, we stop at Shebahon Viewpoint for sweeping canyon views. Later, we journey south to Aomak Beach, where the Indian Ocean coastline provides relaxation, swimming, and overnight camping by the waves.
We begin with a visit to Dogub Cave, filled with stalactites and views of villages below, followed by a stop at Zahek and Hayf, where massive sand dunes rise dramatically against the mountains. Driving through Difarhu Canyon, where lush vegetation attracts Desert Rose trees and birdlife, we continue to Homhil Protected Area for dinner and camping.
After a morning trek in Homhil, including a swim in its natural infinity pool, we drive east to Arher, where freshwater springs flow into the sea. Along the way, we stop at Qaria and Sirhen Lagoons, famous for flamingos and migratory birds, before returning to Hadiboh for dinner, music, and a final overnight stay.
Transfer to Socotra Airport for international departure

A Symphony of Feathers and Song

Socotra: A Sanctuary for Birds
With its remote location, Socotra has remained largely untouched by modernity, making it a sanctuary for both resident and migratory birds. The island’s isolation has allowed bird species to thrive and evolve, creating an ornithological landscape that’s nothing short of extraordinary.

Tourism in Socotra: A Gentle Footprint
As tourism in Socotra grows, it’s essential to maintain a delicate balance between experiencing the island’s avian wonders and preserving its pristine environment. Responsible birdwatching practices ensure that future generations can also revel in the beauty of Socotra’s birds.
